BLDC was started by Girl Scout volunteers Sherri and Jolene in 2000. The first year of camp welcomed 60 campers. Sherri and Jolene continued to run BLDC for 12 years.
By 2012, Sherri and Jolene had grown the camp to 200+ campers. Time honored traditions that unfolded during those years included visits by the Bonney Lake Fire Department for some fun water play and a parent potluck featuring a finale show at the end of the week.
Camp themes included: Bugs & Blooms; Animals, Animals, Animals; Under the Big-Top Circus; Safari Fun; Space Camp; Hooray for Hollywood; Through the Ages; Myths & Legends; and Girl Power.
Bev M. (aka Frizzle) took over as camp director helping to grow the camp to 250+ campers before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Frizzle's leadership BLDC welcomed a rock-climbing wall and annual food drives for the Bonney Lake Food Bank.
Camp themes included: Survivor; Explore; Fantasy; Under the Sea; Candyland; Wild, Wild West; Around the World; and Dinoland.
The COVID-19 Pandemic hit and BLDC was not able to operate for the 2020 and 2021 summers.
BLDC was one of the first Girl Scouts of Western Washington Day Camps to resume in-person day camps for 2022. Frizzle brought the camp back and welcomed close to 100 campers who enjoyed the Candyland theme that was selected prior to the pause in operations.
Desiree (aka Camo) is the new director of BLDC and looks forward to continuing the traditions and activities that make BLDC magical and exciting. The theme for 2024 was Enchanted Forest.
